tumblr users love reading. you literally stopped for this post just because it has words in it

interpolationz

this is one of my favorite bits about tumblr

the users seem to actually prefer text posts to anything else, and treat it as a chore to play a video especially with sound

Aki is tired.

Tired of her mother's disgust and her father's disappointment. No matter what she does, they stay constant. A fog shrouding her vision and a weight on her shoulders.

She used to plow through the day, only to tremble and fall apart at night. Then, the trembling followed her into the daylight; leaving her constantly shaky and ill. Now, she's just...numb.

She drags through the day to day, a haze of exhaustion settled around her. She can't see a future past it, but she hasn't the energy or care to try to change it.

And then, she meets Shay.

Another thing I've noticed working as a children's librarian is like... kids get so Paralyzed By Choice and the adults in their lives never really register why. Like, for example, we have little scavenger hunt sheets in the children's section and when a kid completes it, they get to pick out a cute eraser from our prize basket. We also have a little toy prize chest as part of our "1000 books before Kindergarten" challenge for when kids complete 100 books--and kids will spend minutes carefully picking through everything while their parents are shooting us anxious looks like "sorry they're taking so long! I know this is silly and it's completely ridiculous that my child is taking so long to choose between a bath toy and a cube puzzle because these are cheap and arbitrary objects! Hurry up, Harper! Just pick something! You're embarrassing me!!" But in the kids' perspective, they already have so little control over what objects come into their lives, and in this case, the object represents labor and effort on their end, so of course they feel they must choose very carefully. I've always been an anxious and indecisive person, so it's striking to see how being rushed really doesn't help that and really only makes it harder for kids to figure out what they want.

Not all men

But it’s always a man.

And everyone,

Man, woman, human,

Has a story to tell.

How many songs have been sung,

How many books and poems written,

How many tales have been told,

For all who hear and see to relate to.

Violence, betrayal, heartbreak.

Look how many chose the beast.

Not safe.

Not safe.

Never safe.

Look how many millions agree.

I love men,

I do,

I love their smiles and their laughs and their smell.

But men don’t love each other.

For how can you love a friend,

But not trust them alone with your daughter.

How can you love a friend,

Yet say nothing when they choose violence.

How can you love a friend,

Yet not act when they head down the wrong path.

How can you call that love?

There is no love without trust,

No love in silence,

No love in watching a friend destroy themselves and others.

Love is not limited to romance,

Philia - from the greeks,

Brothers, comrades, friends

“to want good for him, for his own sake”

There is no good in hatred.

Nor in harm nor bigotry.

Don’t you want good for him?

Him - Your brother, your friend?

Men don’t you want better for one another?

Maybe not all men,

But what about you?

the default way for things to taste is good. we know this because "tasty" means something tastes good. conversely, from the words "smelly" and "noisy" we can conclude that the default way for things to smell and sound is bad. interestingly there are no corresponding adjectives for the senses of sight and touch. the inescapable conclusion is that the most ordinary object possible is invisible and intangible, produces a hideous cacophony, smells terrible, but tastes delicious. and yet this description matches no object or phenomenon known to science or human experience. so what the fuck

skluug

this is what ancient greek philosophy is like

ace-disgrace-on-the-case

False! “Sightly” is a positive word, so the default way for things to work is good as well.

The true most ordinary object is beautiful, horrible sounding, very smelly, intangible, and delicious.

I still don’t think it matches anything in existence but to truly understand a thing one must know its true nature.

professionalchaoticdumbass

"touchy" is also a word! however it's mostly used for things that aren't objects, like subjects of conversation. it either means "oversensitive and irritable" or "requires careful handling/wording, delicate"

i think the second one works well for our hypothetical object. so we can use that.

therefore, the Default Object is:

  • beautiful
  • makes a horrendous sound
  • smells absolutely awful
  • is very fragile
  • tastes delicious

and i still cannot think of anything that matches this

and-a-pidgey-in-a-wepear-tree

behold, the default object!

Welcome to the Trades Show!

Hey Hey Hey! Hope you’re doing okay! My name’s Eli and this is my hobby blog. I dabble in a bunch of different hobbies, even in I don’t excel at one in particular (hence the catchphrase, Ace of all Trades, Master of None). Currently UK based, but I try to post later in the evening since I know most peope here are US based.

Here’s a masterlist of all the stuff I do:

I also occasionally put out prompts (most recent) and other random things like photos and recipes.

Hope you find something you like and get encouraged to pick up a new hobby or revive an old one!

this is actually the coolest thing i've heard in a minute. there's something really reassuring about it, honestly. that there's a place in nature, carved out by these creatures, and that even with hundreds of years of separation, they slot back into these spots where they're meant to be

hawaiifiveohana

@thy-valhallen Prairies can struggle with the top layer of the soil becoming so dense from roots, and dried out from the weather, that it's hard for rain to soak in. So bison wallows are actually super important. When it rains, the wallows fill with water--which allows the plants extra time to soak up the moisture. Even the shallow depressions made by their hoofs can hold just enough rain water to help the plants out.

A Whole Other World - Double Drabble (186 words)

Unlike the cluttered, chaotic confusion of her birth town, the street was tranquil. A cool gentle breeze blew causing goose bumps to appear on her arms. Mouth watering and sweet scents from the bakery and florist filled the air. On her left were stalls, bursting with colour. The vendors laughed and chatted with one another while waiting for customers. It was such a marked difference from the hungry mongrels fighting for scraps she was used to. At the end of the street was the entrance to the meadows. Grassy fields of wild flowers rustling in the wind with wild ponies grazing.

For once her mind was at rest. The tumbling, roaring storm inside her brain pacified, leaving behind still waters. Her woes had sprouted wings, leaving behind a version of herself that hadn't existed in year. Happy, carefree, calm - she could hardly recognise herself. Peace washed over her, cleansing her, like a gentle summer rain. Her home town was only a stone-throw away and yet, here was a whole other world; it was astonishing. She ambled down the lane, hoping to hold this serenity forever.

It's weird that to this day a lot of people don't really get the difference between like. "this author is a bad person and the work is problematic" normal style and the much more intense "the author is an important figure in a hate group and actively uses her money and power and fame to take away people's rights, and is currently very successful at doing that"

Candied Winter - Poem

Cotton Candy skies

And bubble gum lies

"There's no such thing as goodbyes"

He cries.

"For who on earth,

Would think it's good,

To be left behind"

Pink skies

White lies

He's been forgotten

 and thus

 he cries

He cries for the girl,

With hair as black as night,

That reached up towards the heaven

He thought she'd fallen from.

He cries for her,

The girl with chocolate brown eyes,

That were full of fire so bright,

It warmed his soul.

He cries for the girl,

With mahagony skin,

Kissed by sun,

Almost as passionately as he kissed her.

He cries for the girl,

Who spoke sugared words,

Tongue dripping honey,

Whispering chocolate covered lyrics into his ear.

Dark chocolate skies

Bittersweet nights

"She said she loved me"

He cried,

Well guess what boy,

She lied.
